UPDATE:

The opening date of Mount Hill Tavern has been pushed back to early 2008. After reworking and fine tuning the plan for most of the summer, the space has been fully demolished and is ready for construction which is set for mid to late September.

We are so pleased with the final look and feel which pays homage to the historical relevance of the location and incorporates updated interior design components. One will find an abundance of historical materials and colors integrated with modern restaurant concepts. In a few short months, Mount Hill Tavern will provide Harrisburg with bold American flavors, exceptional service, and an extensive wine program.

A retail component is also being set to open, adding to the Mount Hill experience. Within the original stone structure on the property will be the Shoppe at Mount Hill. Catering to the sophisticated and the whimsical, the warm old world atmosphere will accommodate both ladies and gentleman. The Shoppe at Mount Hill will offer fine gifts and antiques for the home and office as well as luxurious items for pampering the entire family.

Please stay tuned for updates as they will start to come much more frequently once construction begins. We look forward to taking care of you shortly.

BACKGROUND:

The Fonash.Kendeffy Restaurant Group enters the growing and exciting Harrisburg dining scene with Mount Hill Tavern. Mount Hill Tavern will reside in one of Harrisburg’s historic architectural jewels. Constructed in 1798, the Colonial-style fieldstone structure served as a Tavern through most of the 18th and 19th centuries. During much of the 20th century the property was deprived of significant care. In the 1990’s, under the care and ownership of long time Historic Harrisburg Association supporter Harriet Kopp, the rare property was authentically preserved and expanded.  With the recent purchase of the property, further care and attention has been given to the property ensuring the property’s historical importance. Mount Hill has come full circle and we invite you to enjoy the history, the exceptional design, food, wine and good friends.

The group has been planning the project for over a year, working closely with Harrisburg native and successful business operator and land developer Doug Neidich. Designer Ken Engel of PTC Studios has designed a space that pays homage to the structure’s historical relevance yet has an elegant modern twist. The plan features two floors of dining space, an extensive bar, and superb outdoor seating.

Culinary Institute of America graduate Paul Kendeffy will feature bold American flavors produced from the areas finest produce, meats and fish. The wine list will be extensive with Sommelier Society of America graduate Dave Fonash focusing on the world’s finest producers and growing regions with special attention given to American producers.

Progress of Mount Hill Tavern will be updated on this site. Please stay tuned.
